As I stood on the check in line in the tents of Lincoln Center I kept thinking to myself, “TRIAS, I am going to be in for a pure and structural treat!”; and that it was! Spanish bread designer Joaquin Trias dedicated his Spring 2011 show to “Seized Movement,” the title of the show!  This collection screams to the minimalistic woman who wants to keep her closet fresh with a hint of excitement, fresh fabrics and pops of color which include; black, white, oranges, corals, and shades of gray.

Trias was inspired by how air can have an effect on clothing and its components.  The tailoring was impeccable with loosely formfitting shift dresses, high wasted cigarette pants, structured free flowing suits and plunging v-necks that go on for days! Side slits in a few dresses made for a peek-a-boo effect. The models’ hair were slightly pulled back giving the sense they just walked through a faintly electrical wind tunnel; frizzy and teased. Make up was pretty much nonexistent, allowing the garments to stand out more efficiently.

While watching the show, the stark lighting that complimented the collection almost made for a very cold feeling which is something that is not usually done for a spring collection. When we think of spring sunny days and floral motifs usually come to mind but Trias brings a new meaning to the essence of spring with his latest collection, which is somewhat refreshing. This collection is for the everywoman!
