VH1‘s cult reality sitcom Basketball Wives, which is filming its fifth season, offers many things. Much of those being: vicious gossip, bottle-throwing, designer shoes and bondage dresses galore. But if ever there were an ironicly-named TV show, Basketball Wives takes the spotlight. Because it’s rare that the audience gets to see an actual married wife of a NBA player. But in Season 5, that is going to change… well, almost.
After dropping three former cast mates (Royce Reed, Jennifer Williams, and Kesha Nichols), VH1 entered talks with the wife former NBA All-Star, Stephon Marbury, to join the show as a replacement. Although the former Knicks player is currently in China playing for the Bejing Ducks, his wife Tasha Marbury has already begun filming alongside Evelyn Lozada and Shaunie O’Neal. Brandi Garnett, wife of Kevin Garnett, and Hope Alexa, who is linked to Dwight Howard, are also rumored to be joining the cast this season.
And although she may be a reality TV rookie (Tasha originally turned down a spot on the show after being discouraged by her husband), Mrs. Marbury is wasting no time solidify her spot in front of the cameras. Just days after celebrating her birthday with co-star Evelyn at Gramercy Park Hotel, Tasha wasted no time dragging the production crew out for an encore – this time opting for a private soiree with about 100 invited guests. Attendees included longtime friend Tai Eisley, Love & Hip Hop’s Rich Dollaz, Madame Mayhem, Jay Norris, Shea, Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin, and not surprisingly, a host of professional athletes. The evening also served to bring awareness to Tasha’s newly-launched charity, Faded Tears Foundation.
The rest of the ‘Wives’ cast was noticeably absent, which may have been good news for Tasha as the evening went off completely drama-free. The 37-year-old stunner seemed to be in great spirits as she danced the night away in a billowing silver party dress and Alexander McQueen heels. The star was as happy as can be as she blew out the candles of her three-tiered birthday cake.
And now that the party is over, only time (and likely a few cat fights) will tell what skeletons this bronze beauty is keeping in her shoe closet. It’s inevitable that, after a decade of marriage to one of the NBA’s most scandalous players, Tasha would have made a few frenemies along the way. And while co-star Tami Roman has already tweeted that this season is “more family oriented, not as much drama,” if we’ve learned anything from seasons past it’s that drama is what makes the star. Cheers to another year of fabulous divorces, bitter groupies, and backstabbing friends!
