Spring was in the air on one of the coldest days of the season as Christiane Lemieux, founder and creative director of DwellStudio, revealed her new line of bedding for spring, Avant Garden. Inspired by early American decorators while infusing European influences, the collection featured hand-drawn pieces with whimsical patterns and shapes that were sure to brighten any bedroom.
“Hadley,” named after famed interior decorator Albert Hadley, drew inspiration from an outdoor garden with its trellis print creating a distinct trompe l’oeil effect. “Jardin” represented a modern take on the classic chinoiserie style made popular centuries ago. This was the only place pattern the designer used in her new collection, which featured a large tree surrounded by smaller saplings carefully crafted to fit on the bed in a way that would highlight the artistic scene.
Lemieux, who started her company back in 1999, wanted to experiment with layers and textures in her latest creation for DwellStudio, which she was able to pull off in fun and playful way. The author of Undecorate: The No-Rules Approach to Interior Design, is now working on another book, due out next year.
