Boston Children’s Hospital League Under the Big Top Gala (16)

On November 15th, 2014 it seemed as if nearly all of Boston’s philanthropists (and doctors) were busy fundraising for Boston Children’s Hospital League Under the Big Top themed gala at the Fairmont Copley Hotel in the Back Bay. The Hospital League supports vital programs to benefit child patients often not covered through insurance, as well as important research and medical education. To date, the League has donated over $15 million to the hospital since it’s inception in 1975.

Out of all the causes and fundraising events held this time of year in Boston, the Children’s Hospital League is always a highlight in how the event is always well planned and executed, with great food, beverages, and entertainment. This year was no exception, with guests enjoying a cocktail hour filled with fun circus themed performers including stilt-walkers, Big Apple Circus doctor clowns, and silent and live auctions.

One of the unique aspects of this years gala were the child volunteers at the event (since the benefit is for children, it seemed fitting they help out!). Guests were then welcomed into the dinner program by event co-chairs Rachel Gilli and  Lauren Rosen and enjoyed a sumptuous three course meal with remarks by Sandra Fenwick, President and CEO of Boston Children’s Hospital.

Undoubtedly the most touching part of the evening was when one of the beneficiaries of the League’s work, Liam Talbot, a child patient, spoke eloquently about how the League’s work helped him through his medical illness and recovery. Then, auctioneer John Terrio helped raise some serious funds for the organization through a heated live auction.

Guests then enjoyed an evening of dancing, a fun photo booth, circus themed snacks like popcorn and cotton candy before departing for the evening with a thoroughly packed swag bag. Party favor sponsors like British inspired clothier Boden donated $50 gift cards, along with free lobster roll certificates from Robert’s Maine Grill, Showcase Cinema Movie Theatre vouchers, free burritos at Anna’s Taqueria, blow outs at  Salon Capri as well as yummy brownies by Yummy Mummy, Hint water, Milano lip gloss and many more treats. While it is certainly better to give than receive it is always nice to take home goody bags after events.

Happy Big Topping,

Jenicka
