March Madness Battle of the Dogs at Kings of Kobe

March 18, 2017
8 a.m. to 1 a.m.

The new Kings of Kobe at 790 9th Ave., between 52nd and 53rd, the source of the city’s most exotic hot dogs and hamburgers, will salute National Corn Dog Day, always the first Saturday of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship so March 18 this year, with the “Battle of the Dogs.”

The traditional corn dog (hot dog on a stick, dipped in corn meal batter and then deep fried) will be challenged by Manhattan’s first Waffle Dog – dog on stick dipped in sweetish waffle batter infused with a satisfying savory trace of Cheddar, cooked in a waffle press and served with house made spicy maple aioli  – for taste supremacy.

For Battle of the Dogs, Kings of Kobe (KOK) is adding a corn dog to its culinary roster and bundling it with the bestselling Waffle Dog, already a KOK signature, for $7.80 in honor of the 78 years of the annual college basketball tournament that induces March Madness.

Of course both are made with KOK’s 100 percent wagu “Kobe style” beef hot dogs.  The $7.80  price also represents a National Corn Day / March Madness bargain since each dog sells for $5.25 – the two at $7.80 is nearly a 30 percent discount. And the price is also a nod to the origin of the corn dog,  which first made its debut at the Texas State Fair sometime between 1939 an 1942, or about 78 years ago!
