An Original Story and Production
At the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in
Central Park

City Parks Foundation is proud to announce the upcoming debut of original story and production Yeti, Set, Snow! at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park. The show will open Tuesday, November 13th for fans of all ages and run throughout the Winter season, ending on Sunday, February 24th, 2019.

Yeti, Set, Snow! tells the story of a young girl named Widget, and her friend, Twig, who encounter a yeti named Pascetti on the first snow day of the winter season. Pascetti, who lives on a mountain top nearby, dislikes the snow. Through songs and snow day activities, Pascetti discovers not only that snow can be fun but also learns the value of friendship.

“We are thrilled to bring this original production, perfectly timed for the winter season to an all-ages audience at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre,” said Executive Artistic Director, Erika Elliott. “Kids and kids-at -heart, will love the original characters and seeing Yeti, Set, Snow! in the charming and historic cottage setting in Central Park. The story teaches the important value of friendship through a winterland adventure.”

“Yeti, Set, Snow! is a delightful, wintry tale and I am pleased to add it to our repertoire,” said Artistic Director, Bruce Cannon. “This show will be the directorial debut of our puppeteer, Julia Darden, and will feature new marionette puppets, scenery, and a score designed to entertain audiences of all ages.”

About City Parks Foundation:
City Parks Foundation is the only independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to offer programs in public parks throughout the five boroughs of New York City. At City Parks Foundation, we are dedicated to invigorating and transforming parks into dynamic, vibrant centers of urban life through sports, arts, community development, and education programs for all New Yorkers. Our programs and community building initiatives — located in more than 350 parks, recreation centers, and public schools across the city — reach 425,000 people each year. Our ethos is simple: we believe thriving parks mean thriving communities.

About the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre:
The enchanting Swedish architecture and craftsmanship of the Swedish Cottage which was suggestive of a model schoolhouse caught the eye of Central Park creator Frederick Law Olmsted, who brought it to Central Park in 1877. A traveling marionette company was founded in 1939 and in 1947 the Swedish Cottage became home to the company. In 1973, a permanent theater was constructed inside the Swedish Cottage, designed for marionette performances. Since then, hundreds of thousands of children and families from around the world have enjoyed its original productions. Under the direction of City Parks Foundation, the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre and CityParks PuppetMobile continues to thrill audiences from around the world, entertaining upwards of 65,000 people each year.

Generous private support for The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre and “Yeti, Set, Snow!” is provided by the Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation, The Weininger Foundation, The Prescott Fund for Children and Youth, and the Jane Henson Foundation.
