October 7th: The Bowlmor threw down its 70th birthday bash with an abundance of food and cocktails, and rolled out the red carpet for everyone’s favorite amphibian: Michael Phelps. In addition to delicious indulgences, guests enjoyed bowling and billiards while exploring the vast levels of the bowling alleys and their club, Pressure.
The red carpet eagerly waited for Michael Phelps’ arrival. Lindsay Carlton, the Director of Sales for the Bowlmor and credited for Phelps’ appearance, wanted Michael Phelps because the Bowlmor is “an American institution and we wanted someone who reflected that iconic American personality.” If you missed him (you can’t, he’s ginormous), he returns from being featured a few weeks ago on SNL.
Above the bowling alley on the 5th floor, Pressure was transformed into a vast catering hall: passed hor d’oeuvres; two huge heaps of assorted meats, cheeses, and carbs; a large pasta area; a line for hot dishes with steak; and, my personal favorite, the chocolate fondue station with fruits, marshmallows, and cookies for drenching. The adorable waitresses weaved in and out of the crowd with cocktails while other guests were double fisting by the bar or playing billiards on one of their eight tables.
Along with the 16-time Olympic medalist, in attendance was DJ Benji Madden of Good Charlotte, Aubrey O’Day of Danity Kane, Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks, Cash Cab‘s Ben Bailey, and Donnie Klang of Making the Band 4.
According to the U.S. Bowling Congress (yes, this is for real) more than 67 million people go bowling at least once a year – so go get your game on.
