March 26th: The Times Center held a reception to showcase their event space. Located on West 41st street between 7th and 8th Avenue (located near the New York Times Building), the space is located in all the hubbub of Midtown West.
I was greeted by someone who took me to their theater, with seating for 350+ people in plushy red chairs and an expansive stage, where they say they host anything from company meetings to performances and concerts. I was then led downstairs where I was immediately offered a ruby grapefruit martini – a kick of sour offset by the sugared rim. In the main reception room, there was an elongated table covered in dozens of different kinds of cheeses. Each cheese was label with their appropriate names and where they originated from, and I was in awe at how many different types there were! And all delicious.
Off to the sides, there were different tasting stations set up by Restaurant Associates. My favorite was the slider station, where they had regular burgers, lamb, and tuna burgers, with over ten different kinds of sauces to try that the knowledgeable staff offered suggestions on what would be best to pair with what meats. In addition, there was an abundance of hor d’oeuvres being passed around, and a fully stocked bar.
This event brilliantly showcased what the venue was capable of, fairly simple yet sophisticated and classy. Certainly a great space to host an event!
