I had my first true Sex and the City-esque moment when the ever-so-elusive Soho House New York graciously extended an invitation to us for the grand opening of their newest room, The Library.
The Library, located on the fifth floor of this coveted Meatpacking hot spot, got a new face-life, and is now a lounge decorated with – well, you guessed it – books. Haphazardly, but purposefully, placed books on the shelves and the big, cushy chairs and couches give off an aura that makes you feel oh so scholarly.
Equipped with an elegant bar, the room can fit up to approximately 120 guests for a cocktail party, or about 80 people for a seated meal. Happy guests milled about the room and chatted while sipping on wine and champagne, noshing on the passed hor d’oeuvres.
Arranged in a checkered pattern on the table were gift bags courtesy of their in-house spa, Cowshed. Located on the third floor, the spa has treatment rooms, private eucalyptus steam rooms, and a relaxation space, with offerings of massages, body scrubs, facials, waxing, and nail maintenance. The spa is available to be booked for private parties with all the pamperings your heart could desire.
The hotel itself has 24 bedrooms where you can elect your own type of room based on different price points. Even the smallest room is quite pricy, I may add: however, if you’re one of the elite few, your membership can get you your room at a “discount,” where you can also enjoy the various other amenities the hotel has to offer, including a 44-seat screening room, the main event space on the sixth floor, and the glorious rooftop pool.
After spending some time at Soho House, I realize that the time I had to hang out in such a swanky venue was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which I enjoyed very much. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that has unfortunately come to pass so quickly… Unless, that is, you invite me to your next party here.
