Cynthia Rowley has to be one of the smartest women in the fashion business of late. She knocked-off her own Autumn/Winter 2010 collection, basically doubling her designs to create two lines. Heading uptown to the Gagosian Shop, I was intrigued by the Cynthia Rowley for Gagsosian concept that this gathering was celebrating.
Rowley created a line of print jersey knit dresses that used select pieces of her Autumn/Winter 2010 collection that is printed directly on to the jersey knit. Her thoughts were to get people amped up about the collection and make it immediately available for your Spring and Summer wearing pleasure, or to be placed on your wall as you can purchase the prints on bolts of fabric, have it stretched on a frame and be hung on your walls for viewing pleasure.
These jersey dresses are also in the more affordable range, costing $320 and the 2-sided bolts of fabric that you can utilize for a wall hanging or making your own outfits are $280. Just for the heck of it, there is also a DIY sewing kit and label to make your own Cynthia Rowley outfit for $150.
Rowley was on hand at the shop to discuss her line and sign the labels for the Jersey dresses free of charge. Brooke Shields made a quick stop to the store to mix and mingle. The Gagosian space, which focuses on Pop Art, lent itself to the fashionable, stylish and modern feel of The Rowley for Gagosian line.
The champagne flowed and the crowd was made up of the cool, avant-garde (see Versace leopard coat!) and the artistic. Bravo, Cynthia, for giving in to our need for instant gratification!
