Friday afternoon, Steven Alan Spring 2011 collection of his menswear, womenwear, and accessories were being debuted at Pier 59 in one of their many studio arenas with the view of the Hudson River. We all gathered around the presentation set of wooden planks and dock cleats as each models walked on the dock donning of a freshly flow of sea-breezed hair. The concept was clear: the spring collection is about capturing that easygoing, carefree preppy- lounge look. The presentation’s highlight was in its simplicity, no –fuss ready to wear fashion.
From stripes to refined colors (of ivory, cream, indigo, navy, khaki, olive, there were pops of color with his floral linen jumpsuit and silk double breasted blazer) to different types of textured blazers, and simple cotton pants and sundresses, there were several pieces that stood out: ivory silk linen smoking jacket; the indgo dyed cupro pleated wrapdress; a white eyelet dress with a bustier-style bodice and full skirt; and the waxed trench.
