I equate Davidelfin to New York in as so much as he’s definitely original in his styling and you either love his designs or you hate them.  I’m mostly the former with a little bit of the latter.  Back in line at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center waiting to get into the next show by Spanish sensation David Delfin.

In attendance with me at this Spring 2011 Collection runway show were singer/actor/DJ and nephew of Smokey Robinson, Eric West, British musician Charlie Aksun and Norwegian lead vocalist Camilla Romestrand of Eddie the Gun, TV Personality LuAnn de Lesseps and model/DJ Leigh Lezark, best known as one-third of the New York City-based DJ trio, The Misshapes.

The architectural and streamline Spring/Summer 2011 collection Davidelfin sent down the runway was beautiful and elegant.  The subtle colors of blue, black and white were masterfully challenged by the colorful belts.  The belts bound the collection together with the theme, safety.

As his testimony in regards to his collection he wrote: “The need of protection is the main concept to be used.  Search for shelter, security and fastening… Destroy and rebuild.”  The VERTICAL half and three-quarter shirts showed how something had been destroyed whereas the belts were shown as the thing holding not only the clothes, in itself, together but the entire collection.  Davidelfin went even further and created belts that resembled safety and security.

It was a truly innovative and inspiring collection.  Davidelfin managed to bring back something traditional and classic in a new way which has not been seen before.  This was the best collection I had ever seen from Davidelfin.

Backstage the most memorable event for me, other than congratulating David myself, was witnessing the amount of time and effort it was taking in getting the models’ hair out of the raised-up ponytails and back into “normal” looking hair.  Lots of interviews in Spanish and English were being given… oh, speaking of Spanish, I need to get to the next show being put on by the Argentinian Group.

Thanks, David – see you in February.
