We live over 100 miles away and there was no way we could have afforded my treatments, plus hotel, gas, and food expenses. My wife and I made it through this battle because Hope Lodge and the American Cancer Society were there for me.
– Cancer survivor and former guest of Hope Lodge NYC
ShowHope was founded last year by a handful of friends, colleagues and roommates who have each felt the reverberant effects of cancer, and wanted to somehow engage a new audience of young professionals from around the city to raise awareness for American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, a facility in midtown offering free housing and support services for cancer patients visiting New York City for treatment.
At this year’s second annual event, we checked out the Showtime Show House where each room of the tri-level penthouse was decorated after one of the various Showtime shows, from Dexter, Weeds, Nurse Jackie, to Californication and The Big C. In addition to the themed rooms, there were themed cocktails brought to us by SKYY Spirits that brought to the life each show within each drink.
Going through each room was quite a trip, like Alice exporing Wonderland. Each room was wonderfully decorate with exquisit detail – modern furniture, draping curtains and chandeliers, and props galore.
There were also some creepy rooms, like the one with the big vagina, the stalker bathroom, and the red room with the glowing cross and judgment chair. The best part was ending the night on the roof of the penthouse admiring the view of NYC with drinks in hand.
There were great silent auction items available, including luxury items from Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Marquis Jets, as well as vacation packages. I was incredibly jealous of one girl who won a lovely Caribbean villa stay for quite a reasonable bid! Last year they raised nearly $50,000 for Hope Lodge NYC, so let’s hope they top it this year.
ShowHope aims to raise money and awareness for the only facility in Manhattan that provides free lodging and support services for thousands of cancer patients traveling to New York for treatment. Hope Lodge NYC relies entirely on private donations and grassroots fundraising efforts to sustain its programs, and ShowHope will raise funds by bringing together young professionals from around the city for a night of cocktails, music, and a silent auction in a world class setting.
