Tucked into the lush irregular hills that tip lazily towards palm-lined beaches, Rincón, Puerto Rico, offers New Yorkers a welcome vacation interlude, and what could otherwise be a sleepy, Caribbean town is brought to life by legendary surf and all the care-free fun that surfers bring in with the tide.

When they get the urge to get away, New Yorkers tend to crave a true escape from city—to revel in trading their island of towering skyscrapers for one of towering palm trees, leaving behind the mania of the “New York minute” for going with the flow of “island time.”

Lisa and Harry, the innkeepers of Tres Sirenas, know all about that trade off.  Expat Manhattanites themselves, they seem to get a special kick out of introducing fellow New Yorkers to Rincón, the tropical town that seduced them.  So sweet was their Puerto Rican seduction, that they’ve set up a permanent, vibrant home into which visitors are welcomed with all the gracious touches that truly sets a good B&B apart from the traditional hotel or resort experience.  Tres Sirenas offers guests a sincere home away from home experience.   Except, of course, that this home lounges gracefully on white sand beaches—lulling you to sleep with the harmony of the surf and the coqui, and then easing you awake with the wafting aromas of delightful, gourmet breakfasts prepared by Lisa (a great hostess to the core, she delights in catering the morning’s creation to her guests’ Caribbean cravings).

Smack-dab on the beach, Tres Sirenas, a gorgeous white, Spanish-style villa, was conceptualized and built by Lisa and Harry as a true labor of love.  Knowing it was going to be a B&B from the onset, no detail was overlooked in creating an inviting, relaxing space that guests seek out and come back to again and again.

If prompted by inquiring guests, Lisa will wax poetic about the charms of Rincón.  Pouring over the area map with you at your breakfast table, she will help to plot a customized exploitation of your tropical island day, including interesting sight-seeing routes, restaurant recommendations, and any other relevant advice.  We, for example, were interested in Surfing lessons, and Lisa, a surfer herself, happily introduced us to one of her tried-and-true favorite schools (see our article on Surf 787 here).

Taking cue from the flavors of the Puerto Rican criolla, Tres Sirenas offers the perfect blend of familiar coziness and indulgent Caribbean vacation luxury, all the while still embracing the surf style and Latino spice of its location.
