Having been invited to an event titled, “The 4th Annual Fashion and Football NFL Congratulations Gala,” there’s only one thing that came to my mind – be still my beating heart. I am a die-hard football fan and a fashion fanatic, and never in my wildest dreams could I foresee the two worlds come together so eloquently. But, lo and behold, they did Tuesday night at the Time Warner Center during the event hosted by The Fashion Reporter.
While NFL draftees such as Brandon Harris and Tandon Doss stood around looking luscious in suits, a giant screen showed the Perry Ellis Spring ’11 runway collection, and guests, which included NFL legends Jarvis Green and William Beatty, Bad Girls Club reality star Wilmarie Sena, BET and VH1 personality Aleesha Renee, and model Melissa Ford, sipped tequila cocktails by Jose Cuervo and chowed down on White Castle burgers and cupcakes from Baked by Melissa. In addition to the delicious goodies, guests had the opportunity to play with Samsung gadgets and gismos, as well as bid on silent auction items.
Perhaps unknowingly for those in attendance, the day began far before the guests arrived at the futuristic Samsung Experience showroom for the main event. Editor-in-Chief of The Fashion Reporter, Priscilla Monteiro, whisked draftee Doss off on a shopping spree beforehand, which included stops along Thomas Pink, Hugo Boss, and Esprit. The duo debuted, both looking sharp and ready to mingle.
The night ended with the unveiling of a haute couture gown made of White Castle packages – yes, White Castle packaging – designed by The Fashion Reporter design team. Though it was quite unique, I don’t foresee food wrappers as being an upcoming trend listed on their website anytime soon.
