Last night, Manthropy hosted a launch party in the Library Room at SoHo House New York for, a foundation which works in partnership with companies to auction surplus goods for charities.  Manthropy conducts date auction parties for women’s and children’s charities.  The beneficiary of the evening was Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Manthropy auctioned off a few dinner dates to some lucky ladies.  The big fundraiser will take place over 10 weeks, starting July 4th in the Hamptons, and features 10 different celebrities paired up with their favorite charity.

Guests shelled out $50 for a pair of tickets to the shindig, and we assume that the majority of that fee went to the bottom line, since it was not an open bar and the host asked everyone to ‘drink up’ in order for the organization to meet its beverage minimum… hmmm, awkward!  There were a few items up for silent auction but the big sellers of the night were the benevolent guys who volunteered themselves up for the auction block.  Starting the bids at $150, some of the gentlemen had a bidding war going on for the pleasure of their company….while others were lucky to just get one bid at all.  Not that any of these guys weren’t a good catch, but the room was not exactly full of big spenders.  Awkward x 2!

Towards the end of the evening a few troublemakers (myself included, of course) decided to make a run for the rooftop lounge and were completely shut down by the doorman.  Our last ditch efforts to make the evening worth the cab fare to Meatpacking were sadly thwarted.  We did have a humorous run-in with Amanda Lepore on the elevator but alas, no pictures to prove it!

In retrospect, the real winners of the evening were the kids who participate in Big Brothers/Big Sisters, right?  At least that is what we keep telling ourselves…..
