On Tuesday September 6th, 2011, luxury handbag and home accessories line MISELA celebrated their 3rd anniversary and the start of New York Fashion Week with their “Once Upon a Time in Istanbul” shopping event in Soho.
MISELA’s Istanbul-born Creative Director, Serra Turker, credits her background in textiles and painting as the inspiration for her new colorful spring collection. With additional influences from her homeland and a New York City lifestyle, Turker’s stylish clutches and evening bags are a fresh take on a classic wardrobe staple.
Sipping on Hendrick’s Gin cocktails, the ambience of the event had a Turkish oriental flair courtesy of Turker’s designer interiors. MISELA’s signature purse, the “Serra at Pera” resulted from the designer’s frequent trips to the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. There, the visual array of prints and patterns inspired Turker to weave metals for the signature zigzag patterned hardware that sets her designs apart.
While all the handbags were beautiful, her colorful and metallic exotic leather accessories really stole the show. Clutches in sea snake, stingray, and python with bold hardware accents are reminiscent of a younger, hipper, Nancy Gonzalez-esque design with a much more wallet-friendly price point.
MISELA’s unique designs can be found in New York at Bloomingdales, Henri Bendel, and Sucre NYC or in her online boutique.
