My second show on the first day of  New York Fashion Week: Spring 2012 is none other than Tadashi Shoji. Like Porter Grey, I was very familiar with Tadashi’s work but this is the first time I saw his collection/designs up close. I made a beeline to my seat: H-5-7 and as I waited I admired the front row from afar, where I spotted actresses Virginia Williams, Julia Jones, Carrie Preston, Mashiah Vaughn and the Singer JoJo.  I, then spotted a green flower booklet that read “Tadashi Shoji Spring 2012″ The booklet explained the meaning behind te Tadashi Shoji Spring 2012 collection and the names of the models walking in the show.  Below are the following excerpts.

“The Spring/Summer 2012 Collection is a homage to the enchanting beauty and splendor of the tulip. Rich in its color yet delicate in its form, this admired bloom is full of life, incessantly evolving and changing in shape.”

“So, in the tulip, we have a flower of beauty and grace, of charm, refinement, and distinction. It is a powerful flower and it knows it.”-The Tulip Anthology.

I admit, I was taken aback from the volume of certain dresses but was pleased and impressed with the collection keeping true to its theme.  A powerful tulip, indeed. The crowd was enchanted by it’s shape, voluminous at times and sheer overtone. “Romance in both medieval and modern times” can be applied here. I was in awe. Rich texture, color, backless & ruffle style, long  dresses were showcased in this collection. The finale dress was spectacular! Another great collection at NYFW. I look forward to see beautiful designs from Tadashi Shoji!
