To celebrate the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival, Thrillist held a BBQ & Blues feast at Hudson Terrace on Friday, September 30th, 2011. The evening was presented by Merillat and Kitchen Aid, and hosted by celebrity chef stud Curtis Stone.
Curtis Stone conducted a live cooking demonstration for the audience (swoon), and even invited two lucky guests to help him out. They demonstrated mixing Mr. Stone’s Sour, his signature cocktial using Michael Collins Irish Whiskey, and delicious grilled lobster with thyme corn butter.
The food was absolutely ah-MAH-zing. We got some traditional BBQ pulled pork sliders from Dinosaur Bar-B-Q, while Virgil’s Real BBQ took some chicken wings, smoked ’em for 8 hours, and then slathered delicious BBQ and cheese sauce on there for us.
For more non-traditional BBQ, Sushi Samba had pork belly with salsa criolla and grilled octopus all wrapped in a nice lettuce boat. Takashi had beef belly and paired with with some marinated achilles tendon. And my friend raved about the fried ball sliders from Tchoup Shop, made from brisket-duck liver with Creole mustard.
Going south of the border, Mexicue served up Alabama chicken tacos with creamy Alabaman BBQ Sauce topped with plenty of Cotija cheese. They even gave us a song and dance as they served us! Mable’s Smokehouse turned their BBQ beef and pork into tamales, smothered in a sweeter BBQ sauce.
Local blues band Baby Soda performed lively music on the rooftop while everyone ate, right up until it started raining. But nothing could dampen the mood for the evening, especially not with all the great food and cocktails.
100% of all proceeds from ticket sales for the sold-out event benefited hunger-relief charities, such as the Food Bank for New York City and Share Our Strength.
