Smoke Coconut Cheesecake, Thai Tea Crème Brulee, and a Banana and White Chocolate cupcake. Is your sweet tooth kicking in yet?
If these scrumptious desserts sound appetizing to you, then you may want to stop by Spot Dessert Bar on St. Mark’s. The two-year-old venue opened its door to a select few patrons to taste their new Fall Menu creatively designed by the bar’s new Asian Pastry chef guru, Chef Ian Chalermkittichai.
Originally from Bangkok, Chef Ian has fused his Asian inspired cooking techniques and has brought them to the U.S. He has had many business ventures across the globe but most recently decided to try his hand at a desserts only venue.
Having reworked the menu to include his Asian influences, Chef Ian has come up with a delightful menu full of tasty treats and drinks. He has also decided to add brunch entrees to the menu as well. The bar also has daily specials during the week (attention college students: you get a 15% discount with school I.D.).
All the dishes were prepared for customers to see as Chef Ian and his kitchen staff created beautifully presented desserts. They even encouraged all of us to try everything on the tasting menu (which I took full advantage!) Everything on the menu was heavenly. I strongly recommend the Chocolate Green Tea Lava, which consists of green tea-white chocolate ganach with green tea ice cream. It was my favorite dish of the night (a few of the other guests agreed with me), along with the Smoke Coconut Cheesecake. I decided to try the
Hot Thai Milk Tea which was absolutely tasteful! A perfect drink for the cold weather!
If you’re ever in the neighborhood be sure to stop by for a cupcake (they even let us take some home) or try any of the other new items on the menu and be sure to thank Chef Ian!
