The Joy of Sake Tasting Event
The Joy of Sake is the largest sake-tasting outside Japan, held annually in New York since 2004. Returning to New York on Friday, October 21, 2011 the tasting features the world’s finest sakes paired with traditional and contemporary Asian cuisine from some of the city’s most acclaimed chefs.
Guests will sample the full spectrum of sake styles in the junmai, ginjo, and daiginjo categories, including sakes designated with gold and silver awards from the 2011 U.S. National Sake Appraisal. A total of 326 sakes in peak condition—170 of which are not available in the U.S.—will be offered for tasting at the elegant Altman Building in Chelsea.

The Joy of Sake has committed to donating 30% of the proceeds from the event to brewery families, in the Iwate and Miyagi Prefectures, whose homes were swept away in the tsunami.
The Joy of Sake will be held on Friday, October 21 from 6-9pm at the Altman Building in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood.

The Joy of Sake is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering an appreciation for the traditional art of sake-brewing. It provides opportunities for people outside of Japan to obtain authentic knowledge about sake through seminars and tasting events. Held annually since 2001, The Joy of Sake is the largest sake tasting outside of Japan. Over 1,200 guests attended the Joy of Sake Honolulu event on September 9, 2011. Following the New York City celebration, The Joy of Sake will be held in Tokyo on November 8, 2011.
