Each month, more than 200 women receive breast cancer screening and education services from Capital Breast Care Center (CBCC). An initiative of Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, CBCC is the only community-based breast cancer screening clinic in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area that provides screening and navigation services to women, regardless of their ability to pay.

The breast cancer screening service provided by CBCC represents a Gift of Life for many women who would not otherwise receive mammograms, says CBCC Executive Director Beth Beck.

On Thursday, October 13th, CBCC hosted its 5th annual “Gift of Life” fundraising breakfast from 8:50 to 10:00 a.m. at the Grand Hyatt Washington, 1000 H Street, NW in Washington.  Nearly 500 members of the community will gather to celebrate and honor those who have battled breast cancer. Money raised at the event supports patient services, including screening, education and patient navigation at CBCC. Since 2007 more than $350,000 has been cultivated at the annual breakfast. CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield is this year’s presenting sponsor.

“The Gift of Life Breakfast is a great event that enables our guests to hear directly from our patients,” says Beck. “We are thrilled to include three dynamic women on our program. Every year, I am inspired and humbled by the women who share their stories with us.”
