On Tuesday Evening, the Children’s Cancer & Blood Foundation (CCBF) held their Annual Breakthrough Ball benefit gala in the iconic Grand Ballroom at the Plaza.  Guests arrived in their evening best and were ushered into the cocktail area.  Waiters greeting attendees at the entrance with wine and plate after plate of hors d’oeuvres that looked like mini pieces of art. CCBF staff were stationed around the perimeter of the room auctioning off luxury items and one of a kind experiences like tickets to the Emmys and a trip to Turkey. Just outside the doors, NYC’s elite were photographed on the CCBF’s step & repeat as they were interviewed by the press.

Once the opening reception had concluded, everyone was moved to the Grand Ballroom for the main event. Awards were given to Leyal Aliyeva, the VP of Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Founder of IDEA Environment Campaign, Humanitarian and Philanthropist Muffie Potter Aston, and TLC Cake Boss’ very own Buddy Valastro.

Entertainment for the night was provided by a capella phenomenon Straight No Chaser. No one left empty handed since sponsors like Bloomingdales, Essie and Veev generously donated items for gift bags.

CCBF, the oldest and largest foundation for children with blood cancer diseases, has been dedicated to the cause since 1952 with help from the Division of Hermatology and Oncology at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. The almost 100% fatality rate of children with pediatric cancers has been drastically changed to an 80% survival rate due to the charity’s efforts. 1,000 patients are treated each year by participating doctors and no child is ever turned away because of potential monetary complications. Last year alone the Breakthrough Ball raised over 1 million dollars to this amazing cause.
