On January 10th, the International Culinary Center hosted the International Day of Italian Cuisines for the IDIC 2012 Launch VIP Gala Dinner and Italian Cuisine New York Awards. The dinner was part of a two day program of educational events and seminars to promote the 5th Annual IDIC.
Guests, including many that were being awarded for their Italian NYC restaurants, were treated to a five course meal prepared by Master Chef Gennaro Esposito of the two Michelin star restaurant in Vico Equense, Italy, Torre Del Saracino. The different savory courses all incorporated seafood in some capacity and the second course utilized Grana Padano, the main sponsor of IDIC. The dishes were paired to perfection with wines that were supplied by Banville and Jones Wine Merchants.
Once everyone’s palates were satiated, ICC Founder and CEO, Dorothy Cann Hamilton and Cesare Casella, Dean of Italian Studies, began the award portion of the evening. The two had many heartfelt words and stories for those that were awarded, included chef Mark Ladner of Del Posto, which is credited as the first Italian restaurant in 20 years to receive a four star review from the New York Times. The evening ended on a sweet note with a Neapolitan Rum-Soaked Yeast Cake and Illy Coffee.
On January 17th, chefs around the world that are part of IDIC will all prepare the same traditional Italian dish, Osso in Gremolata, as part of the itchefs website initiative of all being part of a network that ensures Italian restaurants, no matter their location, continue to create authentic Italian cuisine.
