Chef Richard Sandoval has done it again, adding another venue to his list of amazing contemporary restaurants! Pampano Botaneria specializes in Mexican cuisine in a lovely 2 story lounge/restaurant venue in Midtown East.
Pampano features a tapas style menu that is great for sharing & sampling, and while most restaurants only offer red or white sangria, Pampano offers up to eight specialty sangrias on their drink list. Along with serving various wines and tequilas, Pampano also has happy hour specials Monday through Saturday from 5:00pm – 7:00pm with specially priced cocktails and botanas.
There are 30 delicious small plates to choose from on the menu and I got to sample some very tasty dishes! First up was the house guacamole which, I have to admit, was one of the best I’ve ever tasted at any Mexican restaurant in Manhattan. Also an all-star item on the menu is the paella, which consists of wild mushrooms, duck, and bomba rice. Another one of my favorites was The Alambre de Filter – mini skewered filet mignon steaks presented with cabrales sauce. The meat was tender and delicate, and mixed with the dipping sauce it was quite heavenly!
I washed down my samplings with a Blueberry infused sangria mixed with cognac, lemon and lime. No surprise, it was one of the best sangrias I have ever tasted! I will definitely be back with friends to try more of their amazing menu!
Pampano has a wonderful Valentine’s Day special for the upcoming holiday, so make your reservations now!
