I love the Milk Studios venue; located in the heart of the Meatpacking District. Which is I am so happy I got the chance to cover the show of newly married couple, Costello Tagliapietra, which also took place at Milk Studios.
Getting to sit in the 2nd row was also a great addition to the day! Their clothes are always so free and flowing, yet equally chic. If you want magical prints, these men are your go-to guys!
When interviewing them about their inspiration for the collection, they explained how they started with the print and then thought how the print would relay into a pattern and how it would form well to a woman’s body! Jeffery painted the prints to resemble Beatle Juice for a spooky and spunky look that would be beautiful, yet haunting in a whimsical way. When concentrating on their explanation I felt what CT was going for, but still in all the collection was light and uplifting. As per usual, their draping techniques made for very interesting silhouettes that resembled structural elements of the 1940s and 1980s, while still looking fresh and innovative. The cinched waist was a common ground for this collection while the fabric twisted its way around the body in an upward spiral.
The AirDye technology is what makes this duo so interesting to me. For the past few years Costello Tagliapietra has been implementing their consciousness for eco-friendly clothing by using a dying technique that is not harmful to mother earth. This season a dual process was used to create single ply materials with contrasting colors on both sides of the fabric. The color pallet wasn’t as rich as seasons past but fit perfectly with their designs. The collection consisted of purples, salmons, mustard, muted gray, maroon, coco brown, light blue & charcoal.
In the end I would describe this collection as casual chic…being it was more casual than I know them to be!
Front row sightings included: Actress Susan Sarandon, Model Padma Lakshmi, Angela Simmons, Nylon’s Dani Stahl, & Jewelry stylist and Super Dandy Patrick McDonald.
I can’t wait until next season – till then!
Xoxo
