Jason Troisi’s debut on season 8 of Project Runway proved to make for one hell of a show, so many were ecstatic to kick off New York Fashion Week with a preview of his collection for The House of James Troisi. “You Only Live Once,” by The Strokes set the tone for the Fall 2012 presentation of Jason Troisi. The presentation opened with a documentary style video of previous seasons’ runway presentations and the audience was taken on a journey through the young designers past.
The designer showed his fall 2012 collection to a full house of bloggers, editors and fans alike all – the line payed homage to American warrior fantasy, what with all the metal bondage-inspired necklaces, tight corsets and expertly draped necklaces in cream and white – perfect for editorial wear. Mr. Troisi, known for using unique materials, did not disappoint in this collection.
Mr. Troisi explained, “I found a golf bag in this junkyard that was from 1914, about 100 years old, so I wanted to show how powerful that color was, incorporating the white as minimal.” Lots of straps and hardware, thick leather collars, almost like jewelry pieces, adorned delicately crafted white garments. With impeccable seams, the contrast of hard and soft, maximum and minimum, worked well. One dress in particular, a leather bodice attached to a beautifully draped, rusted white skirt, was a prime example that left the viewer hungry for more.
A couple of pieces he mentioned could be worn as wedding gowns for the modern woman, however that was not his primary focus. The ultimate marriage in this collection seemed to be between the hard leather collars and embellishments which courted the feminine white fabric with just a hint of embroidered floral.
