On Thursday, March 15th, fashion designer Danilo Gabrielli hosted a party at Yotel to show off his Fall/Winter 2012 collection and celebrate with friends and supporters. Sponsored by American Airlines, the event featured a pair of models who paraded around in several of the new pieces which were inspired by the 1940’s and hollywood glam.
In September 2011, Gabrielli and his business partner, Joe Bellavia, launched his very first collection at New York Fashion Week.  The Spring/Summer 2012 line turned heads with its ethereal organza layers, crisp cotton fabrics and eye-catching metallics. All of the attention he garnered after the showing should come as no surprise after learning about how the designer grew up.  Raised on Porto Santo Stefano, the Tuscan paradise island on the western coast of Italy, Gabrielli’s mother gave the youngster a glimpse at glamour that helped formulate his love of fashion. There was certainly no trip to Gap for homogenous staple pieces in the Gabrielli family. His mother went to the fabric store and picked her favorites, then employed a pattern maker to design custom clothing for everyone. Danilo describes her as being very fashionable, which surely led to his eventual enchantment for Greta Garbo, who served as his inspiration for the new collection.
Danilo and his friends are a fun bunch, who enjoy living life to the fullest.  The entire evening was filled with laughter, stories of New York adventures, and discussions of which notables will be wearing the designer’s creations next (PS– it’s Dancing With the Stars’ judge Carrie Ann Inaba, so set those DVR’s to see the lovely gown)!  Special guest DJ Phoecus kept the room moving with a mix of new and old school tunes, and the night closed out with a fabulous exchange of air kisses amongst new and old friends. Mr. Gabrielli certainly knows how to throw a party!
