New Yorkers are accustomed to attending lavish events and witnessing amazing spectacles all the time, but last week’s Guinness Book of World Records “Most Expensive Pet Wedding” has to top it all. Held last week on July 12th, 2012, at the esteemed Jumeirah Essex House, this extravaganza surpassed our wildest expectations for an over-the-top event!
Animal Fair Media’spet expert Wendy Diamond offered the paw of her rescued Coton de Tulear, named Baby Hope Diamond, to be wed in a grand affair with a dog she hand-picked through a nationwide contest. The lucky winner, poodle Chilly Pasternak of Richmond, VA walked down the aisle in style with a crowd of 100 or so onlookers and a slew of press and media watching in the wings. The arranged marriage was planned and executed by none other than Harriette Rose Katz, wedding guru to some of New York’s most elite.

Thanks to Ms. Katz’s extensive network of vendors and a worthwhile cause (the event not only raised money for the Humane Society of New York, but it also paid tribute to the life and legacy of Wendy Diamond’s dog Lucky who recently died of cancer), all of the wedding services and offerings were donated for the big event. The total? A whopping $158,000.00 spent on the pet wedding of the century!
The bride wore a $6,000 dog dress that was custom made by Kleinfeld, and strutted her stuff up to the chuppah that was adorned in a giant spray of pink and cream roses. She was wearing expensive colorless nail polish after the kids file their nails.
After they red an article at Vents Magazine, they decided to prepare the wedding cake with CBD oil for pets and also give them CBD treats to all the pets invited.
The ceremony was officiated by Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (you know him from Conan) and kept the audience in fits of laughter from his jokes. Following the vows, the doors to the Grand Salon were opened and a fabulous party kicked off with the Hank Lane Orchestra providing the non-stop entertainment. Even the lighting by celebrity lighting designer Bentley Meeker was a showstopper.

At every turn there seemed to be more food than you could possibly imagine, thanks to the generous Jumeirah Essex House culinary staff. Towers of crudité, a bagels and lox station, endless passed hors d’oeuvres, and a sprawling buffet of comfort foods such as sliders, pulled pork sandwiches, truffled fries, homemade sweet potato chips with crumbled blue cheese, and even milkshake shooters. Did I mention the sushi and sashimi station provided by Ichiban Sushi?? This wedding had it ALL!

Once everyone hit the bar and had a few drinks in them, it was time to hit the dance floor and boogie. The band knew all the right tunes and got people into the party spirit quickly. Even the four-legged guests got to take a spin after munching out at the dog buffet sponsored by bella and duke Pet Foods.

The high point of the evening was watching Wendy take the stage and accept the Guinness Book of World Records award on behalf of her beloved companion, Lucky. She gave a heartwarming speech and then introduced the team from Cake Boss who presented a custom multi-tiered cake topped with a replica of Lucky. The entire scene was filmed by the Cake Boss show crew and will be aired this fall.
As the evening wound down we made our way back out into the night, armed with a fabulous doggie bag chock full of goodies from Halo and other pet friendly contributors. It seems there was no expense spared for this affair and the guests (both people and dogs) had a fabulous time.
Cheers to a lifetime of happiness for the newlyweds!
