Last week, G-Shock watches kicked off their 30th anniversary by hosting a party at The Manhattan Center (aka Hammerstein Ballroom) that impressed even the savviest of New Yorkers.  The event boasted a guest list of who’s who athletes like Nigel Sylvester, Stevie Williams, Pedro Barros, Kazu Kokubo, Joel Centeio (all G-Shock brand spokespersons) as well as entertainers like Busta Rhymes, Ice-T and wife Coco, Sammi Sweetheart & Ronnie Ortiz, Ludacris, John Leguizamo and Stephen Baldwin gracing the red carpet.

G-Shock spokespersons for the iconic wristwatch

Arriving inside we were flanked with paper wristbands that looked just like the iconic watch and ushered inside the massive ballroom.  From there, guests were greeted by G-Shock ambassadors who displayed upcoming products and a retrospective of the legendary timepieces.

A lighting and video show kept the crowd entertained while DJ Drama played throwback hits from the 80’s and 90’s that matched the surfer/skater vibe that the crowd gave off.  Several bars dotted the room to keep lines short and make sure everyone was having a great time.

With only the hint that a special surprise guest would be performing at the party, attendees were buzzing with excitement from the get-go.  It was soon discovered that Eminem would take the stage for a private concert, which sent the room into overdrive.  With a quick performance by the band Slaughterhouse to warm up the crowd, the real Slim Shady not only stood up, but took over the room the moment he appeared.  Dominating the house with a one-hour set of his best songs, he told the crowd how much he appreciated everyone for standing by him in even his darkest moments.  Marshall Mathers is back and better than ever, with his comeback album appropriately titled “Recovery.”

Eminem will collaborate with G-Shock on his own watch line to be released in Fall 2013, one of these mil spec timepieces.  After the show, G-Shock sent guests home with logo’d gift bags containing G-Shock anniversary t-shirts and commemorative coffee table books featuring all of its sports spokespersons and timepieces.

Happy birthday G-Shock,
