On the last official day of NYFW Spring 2013, Nolcha invited fashion influencers and the press to a media breakfast at the British Consultate-General office to meet and mingle with three of London’s up and coming designers.  The creators of Pretty Green, Firetrap and Bolongaro Trevor were excited to talk about what they are working on across the pond and share pieces from their newest lines.

Presented by RUSK and co-hosted by Brian Duffy of STITCH Tradeshow London, we had an opportunity to preview their stylish threads and hear from each of the designers during an interactive Q&A session.  Lamenting that there has always been a struggle for British labels to make it big in America, the group discussed the reasons behind this and how style trends differ so greatly between the UK and US.  Of course, the ubiquitous conversation about the pros and cons of skinny jeans for men made its way into the debate.  Thus far, the gentlemen of Gotham have not embraced this style!

Taking a look at the pieces on display, there was an instant common denominator.  Everything had a very rock and roll vibe and was reminiscent of famed British bands that still rule the arenas.  We saw the de rigueur edgy denim and funky scarves, along with leather coats that sported the already “worn in” look for a cool effect.  Our favorite?  The military jacket!  This has been a hot item in more than one runway show this season, so pick one up now and be on the forefront of this trend.

Cheers,
