Last Friday, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) hosted the annual Pink Promises event at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, Long Island to a crowd full of supportive guests and enthusiastic breast cancer survivors. The event was to be hosted by recent breast cancer survivor Giuliana Rancic, but due to a family emergency, Kelly Bensimon kindly agreed to step in and fill the shoes of her friend and play host to the upbeat affair.

The fabulous evening kicked off with a lively cocktail party with lavish food stations, copious amounts of wine donated by Lulu B. Vineyards and silent auction gift baskets that wowed the crowd.  We saw so many amazing items we couldn’t stop bidding!  Extra touches such as pink lighting throughout the room and an oversized pink ribbon ice sculpture centerpiece made the space come to life and feel festive.

Once guests were ushered into the pink-hued ballroom, it was down to business.  The statistics of how many women are affected by breast cancer are scary.  But what is encouraging about the situation is how rapidly the medical advances are helping to find a cure for the disease.  A women who detects breast cancer early on has a high probability of beating breast cancer, which is what the evening focused on and why supporters in the room had a positive attitude and kept the tone upbeat.

After a heartfelt message from Event Chairwoman Stephanie Ginsberg that honored the late BCRF founder Evelyn Lauder for her major role in breast cancer awareness and fundraising, guests were treated to a delightful plated dinner.  During the meal a slideshow played in the background showing statistics and photos of people who continue the fight each day for finding a cure.

For dessert, attendees were not only treated to what could possibly be the world’s best chocolate lava cake that we have ever tasted, but also a spirited live auction led by Patrick Tully.  Some of the items up for bid were once in a lifetime opportunities to hang out with Elton John at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel, or even sail away to the Caribbean on a Celebrity cruise.  Some of these items were PRICELESS!

Notable guests of the evening included the lovely and talented young actress Erin Wilhelmi, who can currently be seen in The Perks of Being a Wall Flower, as well as star of TLC’s Long Island Medium, Theresa Caputo.  Several local sports figures were in the crowd to support the cause and offer up auction items like VIP seats to games and dining experiences with the Islanders hockey players themselves.

As guests made their way out after a wonderful evening, the hosts of the night went an extra step to make the last impression memorable by offering a to-go coffee station with pink sugared doughnuts and commemorative plastic water bottles as gifts.  And of course, they were pink….naturally.

Congratulations on a very successful night of fundraising and we look forward to the medical advancements that this very special evening will help fund for the year ahead.

Thinking pink,
