With so many events on the charity circuit it can be difficult to weed out the ones that are the “must-attend” parties for the season. Well, if you are a young Jewish professional the Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces (FIDF) Young Leadership’s Annual Gala is where you want to be.

This year’s black tie Gatsby-themed evening of live music, great food – including an amazing fresh sushi bar where you can watch the chefs filet the fish – and casino games benefitted the FIDF’s DIGNITY Program to ease the financial burden of military service on Israeli families.

I was pleasantly surprised to see so many attractive, stylish, and well-heeled young professionals in one place; even if at times it felt like a bit of a meat-market. Over 1400 guests enjoyed playing blackjack, craps, and poker for the chance to score raffle tickets to take home donated luxury prizes. For non-gamblers, there was plenty of dancing courtesy of the live band and DJ Chrissie Miller as well as photo opportunities and a top-shelf open bar.

Don’t expect any long-winded speeches or pompous awards to stand in the way of your schmoozing at this event. After a short introduction and playing the US and Israel national anthems the delicious kosher fare and dessert was served buffet-style. While this may be one of the pricier young Jewish professional events of the year, this is the one that everyone goes to see and be seen at.

L’chaim,

Jenicka
