With the snow falling before, during and after Monika’s presentation New York was bracing for yet another storm: Nemo. Much fiercer than the little fish mind you – but, luckily, we were warm and dry in the tents and eagerly anticipating getting into The Box at Lincoln Center to view Monika Chiang’s latest collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Friday.
The inspiration for her Fall collection was aviation, birds and taking into flight. This was very well shown in the modern take and lines on the flight suits, such as the silk sand colored suit.
She is known for her neutral and nude designs which were visible but a lot more subdued than her regular collections. This Fall’s collection is a new direction for Monika Chiang but a classic look that is refreshing and beautiful.
Her accessories were very literally inspired by the bird, with the bird shapes on the necklaces and bracelets.
The room was packed, the models were a combination of flirty, bubbly and posaic (yes, it’s a word now! ). Celebs even braved the weather as Grammy Award winning rapper-songwriter, record producer and actress Eve was in the house, or tents, as it were.
Congrats to Monika for a wonderful collection. See you next season!
