Woodstock Inn (16)

Just a stone’s throw from New York City is the storied village of Woodstock, a name synonymous with the famed music festival of 1969.

The festival is the culmination of artistic energies that began early in the 1900’s.  The Byrdcliffe art colony began in 1903 in Woodstock and since then the arts have been a central element to the town.  Walking the village streets provides a glimpse into the crafts that have been honed here over the last century. From furniture making, metal works, ceramics, weaving to poetry, painting and music you realize that Woodstock town is the inspiration for the infamous festival of the same name.

There is a lot to discover in Woodstock and there is no better place to base your explorations than the bucolic Woodstock Inn.  This country inn is perched next to the gurgling brook, Millstream, cascading down 1,000 feet of rocky riverbed.  Rooms with their own private back porches offer enchanting melodies from the stream along with a vantage point for spying on local finches dancing among the pines, willows and maples.

The simple and well-built rooms embrace the local culture and will lull you into a restful sleep after a day of exploring.  A room with a fire place is recommended on chillier days and some of the rooms also have spa tubs or a Jacuzzi.

The included continental breakfast is sumptuous. Overflowing with local ingredients and a bent toward health consciousness you can indulge in free range eggs, freshly baked pastries, in season fruits, and organic yogurt.

The charms of the Woodstock Inn continue past the gates in the property.  Though you will feel miles from town you can leave the car keys undisturbed since a 5 minute walk brings you to quaint Tinker Street and the Village Green into the heart of Woodstock.

Setting into the pace of life in Woodstock will leave you anticipating a return trip. Winter provides a beautiful snowy backdrop. Spring thaws to the blossoming of Fairy roses, Echinacea, day lilies and the Woodstock Writers Festival in mid-April. Summer is a great escape to cooler waters and fall will embrace you with the changing colors.  Through all the seasons Woodstock Inn will be your new favorite weekend getaway.
