May 1st I attended Sandra Lee’s World’s Largest Bake Sale at the Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Station and I think it would go in the Guinness Book of Records. It was huge and props to all of the people who made this huge event happen for such worthy causes. The causes which would benefit from this magnificent bake sale are Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign and the Food Bank for New York City.
To support these great causes were of course Sandra Lee herself along with Sears celebrity designer Ty Pennington, Emeril Lagasse, Wendy Williams, Bobby Flay, Martha Stewart and many more. It was a great day with a lot of support from not only the celebrities but also the more than 30 New York bakeries and restaurants showed up with treats for purchase.
The event was sponsored by Kmart, who had set up a play area for the kids and also had a bake sale stand. The event was also sponsored by Sears who had more people running around making the event happen than I have ever seen. One of the draws of the day besides the very delicious and beautiful treats was Ty Pennington’s “Bake Sale Stand” which was to be auctioned off after the event.
All treats were $5 and all proceeds would go to No Kid Hungry and Food Bank for New York City. All in the hopes of eradicating hunger amongst children. Statistics have shown that 1 in every 5 children go hungry because the numbers are so high makes this event even more important. No Kid should go Hungry. One of the things that the No Kid Hungry project does is stuff backpacks with food and put them in kids lockers to take home for the weekend to make sure that the kids also gets a meal during weekends and not just when in school.
The reason this project is so close to Sandra Lee’s heart is because she grew up being one of these children that would go hungry some times. A great cause supported by a great personality.
