On Sunday, September 22ndSouth-South News hosted the 2013 South-South Awardsduring the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The evening honored governments, organizations, and individuals who have made significant contributions to the South-South cooperation and sustainable development.
Ambassador John Ashe, President of the United Nations General Assembly, greeted more than 700 guestsincluding Ambassador and Head of South-South News Francis Lorenzo, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Baldwin Spencer, Naomi Campbell, the Prime Minister of Fiji Frank Bainimarama andHis Holiness Gyalwang Drupka.
Now in it’s third year, the South-South Awards honored former South Africa President Nelson Mandela and his wife Madame Graca Machel for their Humanitarian Achievements. Daughter Zindzi Mandela and daughter-in-law Josina Machel accepted on their behalf.
