On Friday November 22, over 600 attendees from Boston’s social, political, and philanthropic circles attended the Melanoma Foundation of New England’s (MFNE) annual Shades of Hope Gala at the Intercontinental Hotel.
The MFNE is a charitable organization dedicated to decrease the incidence of malignant melanoma skin cancer in New England through raising awareness and promoting early detection; it also acts as an advocacy and support group for melanoma patients and their families.
The evening started with a VIP cocktail reception honoring Shades of Hope sponsors like StrataDx Dermatopathology and KCG Holdings as well as honorary co-chairs former mayor Thomas Menino and wife Angela Menino.
There were fun photo opportunities and delectables as guests perused the silent auction items while being entertained by a live band.
Guests then enjoyed a tapas buffet dinner prior to Emmy award winner and three time cancer survivor Joyce Kulhawik set the stage by sharing her touching battle against melanoma. Kulhawik also presented the second annual Suzanna Donahue Keeper of the Hope Award to the MFNE’s 36-member Boston Marathon Team, Running for Cover and honored team captain Bill Rodgers.
Following the raffle and live auction, attendees danced until midnight to the beats of DJ John Zucco.
Happy Shade Worshipping,
