To help us get over the post-holiday blues, Yelp hosted their second annual Holiday Hangover event aboard the Hornblower‘s Infinity and Hybrid yachts this past Sunday, January 19th. Hundreds of guests braved the winter chill to hop aboard the covered ships and enjoy a night cruising along the Hudson and East Rivers.
We embarked on the Hornblower Infinity, which features a covered sky deck and over-sized windows, along with a massive dance floor perfect for busting some moves. Last year’s inaugural event was so successful that they added the second ship this year – the Hornblower Hybrid, the newest and most eco-friendly yacht on New York Harbor. The event was still so popular that the RSVP link was temporarily shut down! This is what happens when you offer New Yorkers free food and booze.
The event was presented by Campari America and Lagunitas Brewing Company, along with a slew of delicious food vendor who set up shop to serve guests all night long. The only drawback was that the food vendors were split up on the two boats. There should definitely be way to clone yourself to enjoy being at both places at once.
On the Hornblower, guests were blessed with two decks of food vendors. On the first desk, guests eagerly lined up for Dinosaur BBQ as they were still getting their station set up, ready to slop up some delicious pork sliders. 508 GastroBrewery also offered a wide assortment of sliders, from beef to pork and turkey.
Right nearby, Desi Food Truck brought a taste of their Indian food truck indoors with a dish of amazing curried potatoes and rice, simple yet so comforting. Melt Bakery had their signature ice cream sandwiches, but unfortunately I did not have the sense to eat dessert first and they had ran out. You continue to elude me, red velvet ice cream sandwich!
Rōti Mediterranean Grill served mini house-baked pita filled with veggies and hummus, where you could choose between their mild and spicy sauces. Obviously going with spicy is always the better choice. Williamsburg Pizza doled out squares of their most popular flatbread pizzas, and Mozzarella & Vino had – surprise! – mozzarella, in the form of a skewer with tomatoes, a perfect appetizer to consider when hosting your next dinner party.
We chatted with the gals at Hot Bread Kitchen, who cheerfully gave out their bread to try. More than just your neighborhood bakery, Hot Bread Kitchen gives back to the community by helping foreign-born and low-income women and men learn the trade of the food industry. Through their culinary workforce and business incubation programs, Project Launch and HBK Incubates, they sell delicious multi-ethnic breads that are inspired by our bakers and the many countries that they come from, using local and organic ingredients. A great shop with a great mission, not to mention the delicious breads!
Being a coffee fiend, I was terribly excited to see Grady’s Cold Brew aboard. The attractive gentlemen behind the counter didn’t mind when I came back for seconds of the delicious and strong New Orleans-style iced coffee. My main concern with these cold brew jugs is how long they last once opened, but they assured me that they can last in the fridge for up to 5 weeks. Pick some up at Whole Foods or check out where to get some.
My Royal Photo Booth was on hand to capture the fun of the night where they had nautical-themed props for guests to pose with. The photos printed out right on the spot with very little wait time, so it was a fast process! A fun photo booth option to consider for your next event or wedding. If guests weren’t busy taking photo in the booth, we were busy taking pictures of the Statue of Liberty up close and personal.
Other great vendors from the night included: 5oz. Factory, Best Healthy Choice Food Stand, Chal Chilli, Coppelia, Ellary’s Greens, Extra Fancy, Joe & MissesDoe, KIND, Krave Jerky, Little Town NYC, Luke’s Lobster, MAKANA, Mia Chef Gelateria, Nuchas Empanadas, Pala Pizza, Pop Chips, Press Tea, Pretzel Crisps, Souvlaki GR, Taquitoria, Wooly’s, Xe May Sandwich Shop, Yerba Buena, Yorganic, and Health Fairs Direct.
Music and entertainment was provided by Silent Storm, Comedy Outliers, Courtney Weber Tarot Readings, DJ Alex Cecil, DJ BessedDrest, DJ Kev G, John Born Magic, Shoba, The Bosco, and The Love Show Burlesque.
Thanks to Yelp for a great seafaring experience! Looking forward to a year with many new reviews.
