Last weekend, lobsters took over the Lower East Side at the first annual Lobster de Mayo extravaganza! Guests eagerly made their way to Capitale to feast on lobster dishes created by 20 of NYC top restauranteurs.

We were joined by the host of the night, Food Network‘s Katie Lee, along with co-owners of Homarus, Jordan Elkin and Brian McGovern, Chrissy Teigen, Aviva Drescher of the Real Housewives of New York, Dascha Polanco of Orange is the New Black, and many more!

In addition to endless lobster supplied from Maine by Homarus, top-shelf Patron tequila was served all night long. Guests and sponsors came together for this event to benefit City Harvest, with a massive silent auction table full of great memorabilia, packages, and designer items.

Our favorite lobster station of the night was by The Sea Grill with lobster prepared five ways by Chef Yuhi Fujinaga. One may say that is cheating, because he had five different types of dishes versus most restaurants who specialized in one dish, but we say it’s brilliant. The lobster and rice made for a delicious paella-like dish, and we loved the lobster in an Asian-style bun with a side of lobster ceviche and lobster avocado.

Another of our favorite was the macaroni and cheese lobster cream with mascarpone and breadcrumbs from Catch by Chef Hung Huynh. The zesty mac and cheese was also accompanied by a lobster salad in a potato roll topped with chives. Chef Marc Lapico of Jean Georges served up some burgers – sans barbeque grill – with lobster and gruyere cheese, served in adorable to-go boxes.

To match the Mexican theme of the night, there was an abundance of lobster tacos. Beauty & Essex served a soft version of lobster tacos, and Chef John Villa from Tao Downtown stuffed their lobster with avocado, cabbage, and a “special sauce.” Chef Matt Hughes from Tao Uptown prepared a lobster sausage with mise en place. In a similar strategy of artfully plating the dish, Lavo‘s Chef John Deloach served lobster on top of a spring salad.

Other fantastic participants included Chef Howard Kalachnikoff from Gramercy Tavern, Chef Bryce Shuman from Betony, Chef Jared Gadbaw from Marea, Chef Frank Cervantes from Arlington Club, Chef Braden Reardon from The General, The Wayfarer, ABC Kitchen, Bodega Negra, La Cenita, Marc Forgione, and Monarch.
