Discovering Gurus sandals was like a revelation. The simple design, based on ancient Indian tradition (can’t argue with 1000’s of years of innovation, they’re definitely onto something), and the easy comfort of the slip on sandal, belies the big positive impact that the company stands for. Started by two friends, inspired entrepreneurs based in Florida, they source their 100% eco-friendly rubber directly from family farms in India. So direct in fact, that they are actually founders’ families’ who operate the farms. As if the sustainable practice and source wasn’t enough, Gurus takes their commitment to the planet to an even higher level by planting a tree for each pair bought.
We love the color options and the way the sleek but playful design seems to pair with everything we could possibly wear this summer. Lightweight and durable, we’ve found ourselves throwing them in our oversized purses and heading to the park for an impromptu spring picnic.
The packaging is also a nice statement, with the inclusion of a sustainable burlap sack, printed with a moving Gandhi quote: What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another. In this day and age, a sobering thought undoubtedly, but knowing there are companies like Gurus out there, with easy to love products, does give us a reason to hope (and look forward to summer).
Be on the cutting edge of this summer’s fashion and be one of the first to grab a pair on the Guru’s site, and like them on Facebook to stay up to speed on their events, promotions, new colors, etc.
Also, a heads up to our New York readers: Guru’s is having a launch party/happy hour this Thursday at Royale in the East Village. Check out their Facebook invitation. Hope to see you there!
