Joining the ranks of under the radar NYC speakeasies, Bandit’s Roost opened up on the downstairs level of Church Street Tavern in Tribeca. Guests were given a unique code to enter the door, which led down a set of stairs surrounded by mirrors, almost like Alice going down the rabbit hole.
Bandit’s Roost got its name from a photo taken by Jacob Riss in 1888 of a gangster-ridden NYC alleyway and the space is meant to emulate that time period. Partygoers were welcomed into an intimate room with lush seating. The walls bordering the room were backlit vintage photographs.
Fitting for this type of ambiance, Vincent Piazza of Boardwalk Empire fame was on hand to launch the space, while DJ Don Juan spun fun mashups, like Rihanna’s “Diamonds” with M83’s “Midnight City”.
Going forward, weekly codes will be emailed to VIP guests for events and parties, so we’re glad we got a glimpse of it before the uber exclusivity kicked in. Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to be one of the 100 invited!
