My husband and I attended this seasons NYC Craft Beer Festival on Saturday June 18th. I love this event: it is good people, a fun time, and good beer. All that you’d want of a Saturday afternoon!
This season my favorite beers were Blue Point No Apologies IPA it was just hoppy enough that you did not get a strange facial expression when drinking it and just light enough that it would be perfect for a summer night.
If you are more of a Stout kinda person, the Stone Americano is the way to go. A bit on the heavy side, but still light compared to others out there so a more reasonable stout for the summer. Did I mention it tastes just like espresso with alcohol?
If you are into REALLY hoppy beers like I am then the Knee Deep Hoptologist was the best one in the room. Definitely has a kick and gives you that funny looking face when you drink it and oh so good…
But I believe the best beer of the day was the Free Will “The Kragle IPA” which was served only during the VIP hour and the line was loooooong, and since I was a bit late I only got to try it twice. It was the perfect hoppy beer for a warm summer night and they made sure that the beer was served cold. Always serve an IPA extra cold: it takes out some of the bitterness.
As it was a hot summer day, the people at NYC Craft Beer Festival had an extra treat waiting for us. Ben and Jerry’s served with matching beers and ciders. My favorite was the lemon sorbet with a regular apple cider. Yum! But the fudge was good too. Perfect to cool us off in a hot room like the Lexington Armory.
I notice that less and less people are going each season. If you love beer – this is still the event to attend – so I encourage you to come out next season to try some great beers, meet new great people and have a great time!
