Television stars Madison Hu, Gabe Eggerling, Madisyn Shipman, Skai Jackson, Landry Bender joined No Kid Hungry, students and school administrators at the Potrero School in the El Monte City School District earlier in May for a school breakfast celebration to recognize how schools are implementing innovative breakfast solutions to help students get the food they need so they can grow, learn and achieve more.
The stars and No Kid Hungry supporters arrived bright and early to the Potrero School, where they were happily greeted by school administrators, and given a tour of the school. Later, they joined students in their classrooms to discuss the importance of eating a healthy breakfast, and to learn more about solutions like breakfast-in-the-classroom, an alternative model that is increasing student access to breakfast. Since the launch of the No Kid Hungry campaign, there are now 3 million more kids getting breakfast in the morning; today schools are reaching more than half of students who need this meal.
In March, to celebrate National School Breakfast Week, El Monte City School District hosted a “My Perfect Breakfast” contest, which encouraged students to illustrate their idea of the perfect breakfast meal. Gabe, Madisyn, Sophie and Landry met Potrero School’s contest winner and joined students for a tasting of the winning meal, which will be featured on the school menu in May and June.
About No Kid Hungry
No child should go hungry in America, but 1 in 6 kids will face hunger this year. Using proven, practical solutions, No Kid Hungry is ending childhood hunger today by ensuring that kids start the day with a nutritious breakfast, eat healthy summer meals, and families learn the skills they need to shop and cook on a budget. When we all work together, we can make sure kids get the healthy food they need. No Kid Hungry is a campaign of national anti-hunger organization Share Our Strength.
