Last weekend we were lucky enough to attend the Oktoberfest celebration at Watermark Bar down near South Street Seaport. It was a gorgeous day right on the water and everyone was out to have a good time. The venue was in full Oktoberfest decoration, so it felt like you were leaving New York for a minute.
We started our day with food and had an authentic potato salad and Bratwurst. We will warn you, every portion is larger than life. We saw a girl with a pretzel twice the size as her head!
Then it was on to the beer. Traditional Hofbrau beer, such as Weihenstephan and Radeberger were offered and it took two tickets to fill up our larger than life mugs, but e went with filling half way because we don’t drink that quickly!
When we were there, there was regular music playing, but we heard there is also live music. Games such as giant beer pong and cornhole are also on site and traditional stein-holding competitions, which was very entertaining to watch! The staff definitely gets into their hosting responsibilities, complete with authentic German outfits!
There are free tickets to attend or there is an option for unlimited drinking for two hours that will run you $60, AND you get to keep your stein! Dates continue until the first week in October, so make sure you get down there before it’s over. I’d suggest getting there early as it can get crowded, but it’s definitely a treat.
