Though Labor Day Weekend is fast approaching, with people despairing that it is the end of summer, this week’s heat wave is telling us that we still have a few more precious weekends of warm weather to left to enjoy. Take advantage of the outdoors at the new RFTP, located on the 5th floor atop the new POD BK Hotel in Williamsburg.
Since the hotel is newly opened, and RFTP is even newer, not too many people know about it yet. Claim this as your very own rooftop haven while you can and enjoy your pick of seats on the comfy lounge seats or bask in the sun on the high-top tables, while you enjoy refreshing cocktails and maybe nibble on shared bites.
The cocktail menu will evolve with the seasons, so right now they are refreshing and full of summery cheer. Coinciding with the US Open for a limited time, try the Honey Deuce made with Grey Goose Vodka, fresh lemonade, Chambord, and a ball of honeydew melon (which I later realized resembles a mini tennis ball. How clever!). This will be your new go-to beverage.
Another popular option is the sweet RFTPunch made with Sailor Jerry Rum and fresh citrus juices and served in an adorable bright pink flamingo cup that you can take home with you. If you really need to cool off, opt for the Grey Frosé made with Grey Goose Vodka, rosé, fresh lime, and pressed watermelon, all blended smoothly for an ideal summer drink. Don’t let it fool you because it is surprisingly potent!
What is even better is that you can enjoy buy one, get one cocktails during happy hour, which is Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
To really make the most of your time at RFTP, there are small plates and a brunch items to indulge in. We started off with the Artichoke Dip made with cauliflower, garlic confit, and seared fontina, and the Shakshuka with a baked egg in a flavorful, slightly spicy tomato sauce. Both came with pita chips, making these great options as shared dishes for the table. Also good for sharing are the Summertime Avocado Hummus and the RFTP Vegetable Garden for fresh raw veggies and “edible soil” with buttermilk ranch.
The highlight of the brunch menu is the Breakfast Pizza made with organic eggs and topped with thinly sliced crispy bacon, mushrooms, fontina cheese, and truffle. The dough is thin but fluffy and airy, not leaving you feeling too heavy.
You’ll want to leave room for the Nutella Pizza (which is more like a pie IMO) with a crunchy crust to trap in all the gooey Nutella and topped with chunks of chocolate chip and a dollop of marscapone. Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4:00 PM.
RFTP is great to enjoy now during the summer and they plan on staying open throughout the fall. They plan on changing up the cocktail menu and incorporate seasonal drinks, so plan on a return visit and exploring all of their delicious options!
