I was able to stop smiling long enough to write this article, still reeling from the Wednesday night Savage Pianos performance for Dueling Pianos at Haswell Greens. The venue, which is in a pretty touristy area of the city, provides a solid pre or post theater option for dinner, drinks and entertainment.
We arrived at Haswell Greens early to grab dinner and drinks before the music started, since 9:00 PM can be kind of late. What’s great about the drinks is that they’re inspired by the Broadway shows surrounding the restaurant. Some are pretty easy to guess, others we had to get clues for, but all have a whimsical component.
We started with the Third Times the Charm, a Beetlejuice-themed mezcal cocktail. We also chose to try the That’s So Fetch, an homage to Mean Girls with Tequila, lillet, passion fruit, and cotton candy.
For food, appetizers are really where Haswell Greens thrives and the dishes are great for sharing with one person or more. In the past we’ve tried the Crispy Deviled Eggs and Green Market Squash Pizza, but this time we went a different route.
We started with the Wood-Fired Brussels Sprouts, that were cooked perfectly and paired well with the crispy pancetta. The Bacon-Wrapped Meatballs are a heartier dish and should definitely be shared. The Crispy Chicken Bites, with celery relish, buttermilk aioli and honey-mustard were a crowd pleaser. We wanted to end our meal on a sweet note and opted for the Homemade Coconut Cake. The tropical flavors of lime curd, passion fruit and cashews, is a sweet summer treat.
Haswell Greens has dueling piano performances on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings, with a DJ on Fridays and live music on Tuesday and Thursdays, so there’s always something happening. This place is great for happy hours, corporate parties (they have an entire upstairs), entertaining family and we saw quite a few date nights while we were there. Regardless of the occasion, we’ll definitely be back for more tunes!
