One of the most anticipated summer events, Diner En Blanc, returned to NYC for its 9th year. Over 5,500 New Yorkers made their way over to Rockefeller Park in Tribeca with a beautiful waterfront view.
This “secretive” pop-up dinner originated in France 31 years ago, and has now spanned to 80 cities in 30 countries. This year an estimated 130,000 guests around the world will make an appearance at a Diner En Blanc event.
Guests showed up decked out in all white with elaborate outfits – some with extravagant headpieces and accessories – table settings, custom center pieces, and a spread of delicious food and drinks.
Christine Tripoli of Looking Glass Events Group and Peter Kohlmann of PEKO Productions were the co-hosts of Le Dîner en Blanc New York this summer, along with Linda Davis and Kaitlin Davis of The Davis Group.
We had the honor of speaking with Christine Tripoli prior to the event, who said that her inspiration of “Uniquely New York” comes from the Diner en Blanc customers who “reflect the diversity of New York: all ages, all walks of life, and all boroughs.” The entertainment is a small showcase celebrating the Best of Broadway, which speaks to a large part of New York culture.
We also asked about her favorite part of the evening: “I love seeing that part of the event when the guests are just about done lining up and finally do the waving of the napkins to salute the start of dinner. That is when all the details and all the work come together, when the dancing starts and to see the joy in people’s faces.”
Sponsors for the beautiful evening included:
Despite weeks and months of planning, Mother Nature had other plans in store for the evening. A torrential downpour of rain, thunder, and lightening began right after got seated and was ready to chow down, but not before hearing the live performances of the Broadway showcase. Although guests were required to vacate the park early for everyone’s safety, it was still a fabulous night – if anything lots of guests bonded and laughed at the debacle and many see-through outfits.
