Elsie Rooftop, a luxe rooftop lounge in the Theater District, has just launched Tea with Lady Mendl aka a boozy burlesque brunch.
The rooftop is named after Elsie De Wolfe aka Lady Mendl, who was a prominent figure in American, French and English society. So the weekly soiree is a necessary nod to the namesake. Socially Superlative was invited to experience a preview of the burlesque brunch after dark…on a weekday and things got interesting!
When you arrive on the winterized rooftop, you are given seating around the stage with an aerial ring prominently stationed in front, so you know something is about to kick off. The spectacular staff take your tea orders, which you’re more than welcome to spike with spirits. Should you want a cocktail instead, that is also allowed and encouraged. True to high tea, each table gets a tower of light bites and decadent desserts that will fulfill all taste buds and preferences. Our favorites were the black angus sliders, salmon tea sandwiches and mini chocolate mousse petit fours.
Once everyone is situated, the event really begins. As a tribute to Lady Mendl, the high tea experience is combined with Parisian theatrical immersive acts. Much like the high tea tower, there is really entertainment for everyone. There’s singing, there’s burlesque, there are daring movements on the aerial ring, there is belly dancing and movements similar to Shakira at the Super Bowl (how apropos!). There are moments that call for crowd participation, which the spiked tea will help to give you liquid courage for. It’s a great way to spend an extraordinary brunch or girl’s day out.
Tea with Lady Mendl at the Elsie Rooftop is a fun and different way to keep yourself occupied while waiting for spring to bloom in New York.
