Do you like chicken? If you’re a carnivore like me you’ve eaten your share of poultry. We all like to binge from time-to-time on KFC or Popeyes, but if you wanna eat a healthy bird that’s not fried in a vat of oil you should check out Fields Good Chicken (FGC).
Founded by Field Failing and his wife Christina in 2014, they’ve grown to 5 locations in NYC with a 6th to open soon. With so many restaurants closing due to COVID, how does FGC stay afloat? I’ll give you my opinion. It’s because their chicken is delicious. My buddy and I recently ordered some birds with fixins and were impressed!
The chicken was tender, juicy and flavorful. Definitely try the Green Goddess sauce. This has as much to do with the cooking as it does with the chicken itself, which is humanely raised on an all-vegetarian diet of corn and soybeans without animal by-products, antibiotics, or added growth hormones or steroids. You can really taste the difference.
For fixins (or “sides” if you haven’t been down south) we went all out. I got Herb Smashed Potatoes, Mac & Cheese, and Southwestern Black Beans, while my healthier friend tried the Roasted Broccoli, Charred Sweet Potatoes, and Green Bean Salad. No complaints here, ladies and gents. All was excellent, but I highly recommend their charred sweet potatoes. Damn good!
We finished off with some Vegan Fudge Brownies from Greyston Bakery. Ooooooh yeah. And guess what, they bake 34,000 pounds of brownies every day and ships them to Ben & Jerry’s for some of their best-loved ice cream flavors.
Not only is FGC healthy and good for you, but it’s also good for the community. They use alternative fuels to power their restaurants, ensuring they’re built with sustainable materials with energy efficiency in mind. Their food packaging materials are either 100% recyclable or compostable. They also source vendors who share their values and partner with 1% for the Planet, giving 1% of their annual sales back to the environment.
But that’s not all! In June of this year in response to the senseless killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and so many other Black Americans, FGC’s Founder Field Failing created an Anti-Racism Action Plan for his company. You can read more about it by going here: www.fieldsgoodchicken.com/anti-racism-action-plan.
In short, he’s committed to building a Home Office Leadership Team that reflects the diverse talent in his restaurants. His next Two Hires at the Home Office level will be people of color, bringing their representation to 22%. Within the next 3 years, people of color will make up at least 50% of his Home Office team. All current and future employees will also be required to complete unconscious bias training by the end of 2020. FGC’s culinary department will set a strategy to work with Black-owned businesses to diversify their food and beverage suppliers.
Finally, FGC has been and continues to donate food to hospital workers in NYC. So folks, with Delicious Chicken and Excellent Values, I hope you’ll support Fields Good Chicken. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
Stay safe and be well everyone!
